Michael D. Howerton Appointed as Chair of the

Greater Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau Commission
Becomes only the second chair in 25 years to come from the hotel industry

LOUISVILLE. (July 16, 2012) – The Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau announced today
the appointment of Michael D. Howerton as Chair of the Greater Louisville Convention &
Visitors Bureau Commission. With the appointment, he becomes only the second chair in 25
years to come from the hotel industry.

Howerton is the Market Vice President of the Marriott Louisville Downtown and has been an
associate with White Lodging since 1989. In his current role with White Lodging, he is
responsible for operating the company’s largest convention hotel in Louisville along with other
area Marriott flagged hotels and over 1100 hotel rooms in the Louisville Market.

The “Commission” is the policy-making body of the Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau, the
community’s tourism marketing organization. Governor Steve Beshear appointed him to the
Commission in 2010. Howerton assumes leadership of the board at the next Commission
meeting on July

24, 2012.

Howerton replaces Gary Ulmer, President of the Louisville Bats who will remain on the board
as Immediate Past Chair.

Howerton has been involved in the hospitality industry for three decades beginning in
restaurants and moving with hotel management across the country
